One of the simplest ways to describe what is new with culturally mature thought is that it more directly reflects that fact that we are alive, and more specifically, that we are alive in the particular ways that make us human. Modern Age thought successfully applied the language of machines to take us beyond the superstitions and narrow ardencies of medieval belief. But we are not machines. Effective future decision-making will require thought that more directly reflects who we are and what gives human life meaning.
